2014 has been quite a year for Dyslexic film makers. Some of the biggest and most exciting films have been directed, produced by or had Dyslexics in starring roles. If you missed them, then here’s a quick round up.

Transformers: Age of Extinction

With the recently diagnosed Steven Spielberg (Executive producer) at the helm, Transformers: Age of Extinction came morphing on to our screens. With global box office sales of over $1billion* it’s safe to say that Optimus Prime and his chums will soon be back for another installment of this robot franchise.

Noah

While not one of the biggest block busters of the year, Noah still managed to ring up more than $360m* at the box office. In this epic portrayal of the bible story Anthony Hopkins (Dyslexic) stars as Methuselah, the 969 year old grandfather of Noah. Although the film was criticized for straying from the traditional story, whatever your views, this one may be worth seeing for the special effects alone.

 12 Years A Slave

While not the biggest money spinner at the box office ($187m*) and not strictly released in 2014, 12 Years A Slave was by far the most prominent Dyslexic made film of the year. Directed by Steve Mcqueen (Dyslexic) this film cleaned up on the awards circuit. Silverware included three Oscars including best picture and best adapted screen play, as well as awards at the Golden Globes, Baftas and Critics Choice awards.

With 2014 being such an epic year for Dyslexic films, 2015 has some pretty big boots to fill. But fear not 2015, with films by Quentin Tarantino and Steven Spielberg gracing our screens, it looks like 2015 will be another bumper year.

Jurassic World

For 2015 we’ve a new instalment of the Jurassic Park franchise, once again Steven Spielberg opts to produce rather than direct. This film is set in real time, twenty-two years after the original instalment, Jurassic Park (1993) and insanely after the disastrous events of Jurassic Park III (2001) someone, somehow has turned Isla Nublar into a functioning visitor attraction. Initially a success, after 10 years of popularity, visitor numbers are starting to decline. Without learning any lessons from the past three films, owners of the park think the answer to their financial woes is to create a hybrid dinosaur. Can you guess what happens next?

 Jupiter Ascending

Unbeknown to earthlings they are not the only life forms in the solar system. In fact life on earth and other planets is merely a farming project for alien royalty. When humans evolve to the ‘Darwinian state of perfection’ they will be harvested, to create a youth serum that will allow its creators to live for ever. This seems like standard farming practice, until the alien Queen dies and a power struggle ensues between the heirs to the throne. Meanwhile Jupiter Jones, a cleaner and caretaker on earth, unknowingly holds the genetic signature that marks her out as heir to Earth. With the help of hunky Dyslexic, Channing Tatum (Caine), she attempts to evade the bounty on her head and claim her right to the throne.

Other films to look out for this year are:

  • The Hateful Eight – Quentin Tarantino (director)
  • Focus – Will Smith
  • Magic Mike XXL – Channing Tatum
  • The Man From U.N.C.L.E – Guy Ritchie (director)

As well as looking like a great year for Hollywood’s usual suspects, 2015 looks like a great year for some of our home-grown Dyslexic talent.

 Bueno Key

With a great pedigree in film making and stage production, for Lennie Varvarides Bielecka and Kazimir Varvarides Bielecki, the duo behind Dyslpa and bielecki&bielecka, 2015 sees the production of their first crowd funded film. As with any kick starter this film will not get made without your support. This kick starter is still running (as of 01/01/15) so if you want to support Dyslexic creatives in the UK please make a pledge here

Bueno Key is a drama about three characters trapped in a world of addiction; an ugly world of drug dealing and drug taking, and risking it all on the horses. Bueno Key is a powerful story about how we must sacrifice all that we know to become all that we can be. This sacrifice begins with a phone call to a drama coach. Proving that art can change lives.

I Am Dyslexic

After racking up more than 63,000 YouTube views of the original 12 minute documentary, Tom Davis and the team from ‘Time Lapse Films’ are back again; and this time its feature length! After the positive response for the first doc Davis and his team saw the potential in this subject matter, so they launched and successfully funded a Kickstarter to raise the funds for a feature length documentary.

Keep an eye on these guys twitter feed for updates on the new film.

As you can see this year there’s something for everyone from the world of Dyslexic filmmakers in.
